Students Participate in OSU Honor Band
Four Dayton Christian School junior high students took part in the 2019 Ohio State Middle School Honor Band Festival this past Saturday. Merrick May, Mathias Hahn, Justin Lotter and Nathan Reynolds joined about 360 other students in this annual event.
Each year, outstanding musicians in 7th and 8th grade are nominated by their band directors for the festival. If selected to take part, the students are invited by the OSU School of Music to campus to rehearse and perform in one of four 90-piece concert bands led by a dedicated conductor and the festival guest composer/conductor Larry Clark. In the afternoon, the festival concert takes place in the Mershon Auditorium.
“I was deeply honored to be chosen again this year for the OSU Middle School Honor Band,” said 8th grader Merrick May. “I appreciate Mrs. Kohl recommending me again and OSU for hosting this amazing workshop and concert. I would highly encourage any student who has the God-given ability and opportunity to attend this workshop. It was an amazing experience both years I attended.”
DCS seventh grader Nathan Reynolds echoed May’s thoughts. “It was a great experience for learning as well as having fun. I am very thankful to Mrs. Kohl and The Ohio State University for giving us this opportunity.”
