Heath Harding: On to the pros!

Heath Harding: On to the pros!

Dayton Christian School alumnus Heath Harding (‘13) signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons this past weekend after the 2018 NFL Draft.

Harding was a running back and receiver on the DC team that was finally able to claim a winning season after beginning the football program in 2002. During Harding’s junior year, the team went 9-1. Finally, Harding led DC to an undefeated season his senior year with 2,218 total yards and an average 17.2 yards per carry.

Harding is the undisputed king of DC football as he holds seven school records: most career rushing yards (5,121), most season rushing yards (2097), most career rushing touchdowns (76), most rushing touchdowns per season (30), most career receiving yards (1,172), most receiving yards per game (146), and the most career receiving touchdowns (12).* He was named to the All-Ohio team and was an Ohio Mr. Football nominee.

Upon graduation, Harding signed with Miami University where – although he has persevered through some injuries – he earned All-MAC honors in the 2016 season as a defensive back.

However, Heath’s time at Miami, in many ways, mirrors his DC career. Both teams were at rock bottom when he joined them, and much of the credit for turning each of them around goes to Harding. In addition, he is much loved on both campuses. He still stops by to visit friends at DC and he is known as the “Mayor of Oxford” for his charming and friendly disposition.

And just as his move from high to college may have been unsure and even rocky at first (there weren’t as many offers as was hoped), Heath’s transition from a MAC star to the NFL is not completely assured either. Harding was nearly a certain draft pick eight months ago, but an unsteady senior season due to injuries kept his name from being called last week by any NFL team. He signed with the Atlanta Falconsshortly after the draft as a free agent and will work hard to earn a permanent spot on the team.

But for anyone who knows or knows of Heath, we can be assured of one thing: He will face any adversity and fight hard to the end.

We wish you all the best, Heath Harding! Show those Falcons what you can do!
