Dayton Christian School System Announces New Leader
Xenia, Ohio, July 1, 2010-The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert M. Elliott as President and Chief Executive Officer of Dayton Christian School System (DCSS).
Elliott has served as President of Legacy Ministries Foundation (LMF) since July 2009 where he led one of the most successful annual fund campaigns in the school system's history, nearly doubling the level of giving from prior years. Like DCSS, LMF is a ministry of Legacy Ministries International (LMI). LMF provides fundraising assistance for all ministries of LMI. Prior to LMF, Elliott was Executive Director of Emmanuel Christian Academy in Springfield, Ohio, a school he helped to found in 1997.
"I am convinced that God has uniquely prepared Bob to lead this ministry," said Claude E. "Bud" Schindler, President of LMI. "I am overwhelmed at what God has done these many years through the ministry of Dayton Christian School System and look forward to what God will do in the years ahead under Bob's direction."
Elliott expressed his desire that DCSS continue to be a leading influence in Christian education regionally and nationally. Elliott stated, "Dayton Christian School System has been built on a solid, Biblically-based, Christ-centered, quality education. I am committed to maintaining what has made DCSS successful, while also working to promote high levels of excellence in all facets of the school system. My aspiration has always been to put Christ first; to educate the students with academic excellence as well as prepare them in furthering the kingdom of God; to instill in them a heart for outreach and service; and equip them with lifelong, godly characteristics. I am truly humbled to serve in this role."
Dayton Christian School System includes Dayton Christian School, Xenia Christian School, and the Dayton Christian Homeschool program with more than 1,500 students currently enrolled. Nearly 5,000 students have graduated from DCSS, which has served as a model to many Christian schools all over the world. In addition, Dayton Christian School System has developed one of the leading home school programs in the country.
Dayton Christian School System Founder, First Superintendent Bud Schindler Steps Down
Xenia, Ohio, July 1, 2010 - After 47 years in leadership of the Dayton Christian School System, the Board of Trustees announces that Claude E. "Bud" Schindler will step down, effective July 1, 2010. Schindler will serve as President Emeritus after a short-term sabbatical.
Schindler served as the first superintendent of the school system. In 1999 he took on the additional, and current, role of President of DCSS's newly formed parent organization Legacy Ministries International (LMI). Besides DCSS, LMI formed several other ministries under its umbrella including Legacy Village Retirement Community, Legacy Village Assisted Living, LMI Services, and The Schindler Banquet Center, located on the 250-acre Legacy Center campus in Xenia, Ohio it had purchased from the State of Ohio to relocate Xenia Christian Schools.
Schindler experienced the joy of seeing DCSS birthed in 1963 and has watched as it grew into one of the largest Christian school systems in the country, often modeled by Christian schools around the world. DCSS currently has more than 1,500 students in Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade at its Dayton Christian and Xenia Christian School campuses and in its Dayton Christian Homeschool program. DCSS has graduated almost 5,000 students from its system. In addition, Dayton Christian School System has developed one of the leading homeschool programs in the country.
"For nearly 50 years, Bud Schindler devoted his life to this ministry," says Dr. William Wilson, Chairman of the Board of the Dayton Christian School System. "There are no words to adequately describe the eternal impact Bud has had on the lives of students and their families. His faithfulness to God and his family, his love for people, and his sacrificial service to DCSS for half a century have been a blessing to countless lives."
Schindler will continue to interact with parents, donors, alumni, and students on a regular basis in his new role of President Emeritus of DCSS.
Schindler is past chairman of the Board of Directors of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and served as board chairman during two different terms of office. He has also served on the board of the South Metro Regional Chamber of Commerce, as a trustee for the Kettering Health Network, and as President of WFCJ, Strong Tower Christian Media. Schindler and his wife, Carole, have four grown children, all of whom were educated within DCSS, and 13 grandchildren.
Schindler is the author of several books on Christian education including Educating for Eternity, The Role of Athletics in the Christian School, Sowing for Excellence, and Still Educating for Eternity. He has traveled and spoken extensively on the topic of Christian education both in the United States and around the world.
Victoria Theatre President Applauds DCS Students
The President of the Victoria Theatre Association sent a letter to
DCSS Superintendent Lee C. Reno praising the quality of DCS students' character and the quality of their production of The Music Man last weekend. DCS was the first high school to ever use the historic theatre for one of its productions.
"They were polite, quiet, focused, respectful, and most of all, talented. Mr. Reno, let me tell you that this is not an experience that happens with many other high school groups," said Mr. Ken Neufeld in his letter dated May 3, 2010.
Mr. Reno was blessed to hear "the impact the kids had as they lived out their faith through their actions, attitudes and words."
